If you're having issues with your integrated webcam on your laptop, i.e. video freezes during Teams call, Microsoft Camera App keeps restarting or camera light switching on and off, or even the following error


Possible causes:

Microsoft Windows Updates modifies the app Security Settings

New app installation modifies the app Security Settings

Out-of-date device drivers causing a conflict




Try the following fixes:


1 – Updates

Update all the usual:

Dell Drivers using the SupportAssist app

MS Windows Updates (Although some opinions is that this caused it in the first place so check update history to see if that’s when it started – If so remove it and try again)


2 – Apps

If it is App Specific (Camera/Teams etc) - Reset the App in settings


3 – Reg Fix

After trying all the above, this is the one that fixed mine!


Right Click Start button – Select Run – Type REGEDIT and select the Registry Editor - UAC may kick in just enter your creds

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform

Make a right click on Platform folder and select New – DWORD

Name It “EnableFrameServerMode” and make sure the value is “0”


Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Windows Media Foundation\Platform

Make a right click on Platform folder and select New – DWORD

Name It “EnableFrameServerMode” and make sure the value is “0”


Exit Registry Editor – I found it was fixed without a reboot, but it may be needed.
